SHOOTOUT PT2 at Warehouse 1/25/2002
|
NO DUBS ALLOWED!! The 45 Shoot_Out
Part 2 was held at the Warehouse in Brooklyn
on Friday Jan 25, 2002. Steelie Bashment did not
show up but Rodigan, Squingy & DJ Mark,
Panther & Yunsi, Matterhorn & Johnny Killa,
& Killa Bo & crew were all present
and accounted for. I must say it was another successful
& safe Irish & Chin event. The dance got
off to a roaring start when the legendary David
Rodigan walked out on stage in a long, black trench
coat. He then told the crowd that he was not searched
by security before entering the dance because
he was a badman. He placed his hand in the interior
pocked of the trench coat and guess what he pulled
out? Rodigan pulled out a big, black, dutty, stinking
45 and used it to Buss Di Place... (relax it was
only a record). This was the biggest forward for
the night. However the dance got too sticky for
him in the later rounds as he came with his usual
intros & foundation speeches.
The format for the dance was three 15-minute
rounds and tune fi tune segment consisting of
10 tunes. Squingy & Panther did not step up
to the challenge and the crowd did not show any
mercy although Squing & DJ Mark had a good
first round. Matterhorn got good crowd response
throughout his 1st round but Killa Bo proved why
he belonged at the dance and why he won 45
Shoot_Out Part 1 by clearly taking the 1st
round.
The 2nd biggest forward for the night came when
Matterhorn jumped down into the pit to wine on
a secrity girl...the crowd's response is pictured
above. Di whole place mashup. I gotta give it
to Matterhorn because he is not just a selector
he is a entertainer/comedian/actor/dj/chatabox.
People definitely go to dances to see what creativity
he comes with next. Also special mention goes
out to Johnny Killa (mixed for Matterhorn all
night), who made a wicked speech directed at Killa
Bo. He then played a tune that bus di place. Nice
to see him get some shine because he has handled
the turntables very well for Matterhorn.
Killa Bo set the pace in the 3rd round and it
was begining to look like his 1st victory was
not luck. He surely did bring it to the competiion.
However Matterhorn stated that Killa Bo won
Part 1 because of "politics".
It was clear that the crowd wanted Killa Bo &
Matterhorn to settle dispute once & for all.
So when time came for sound eliminations everyone
was sportsman like and dropped out to give the
stage to the young warrior from Queens & Brooklyn's
own Tony Mentally Ill.
In
the end it was Matterhorn who took a clear lead
& with home court advantage on his side, he
did not fail his Brooklyn people. The picture
on the left shows fr: left:

right:Veteran selector
Glammor Wayne.
There were some big speaches at the end of the
dance & those who ran out right after the
winner was announced missed out. It is worth buying
the tapes just to hear Rodigan, Glammor Wayne
& Rodigan speak their minds.
